How To Construct A Dog House

When you think of building and construction, you think of it as a task that wants a lot of manpower. Almost instantly, you envision a few men wearing yellow helmets working in a building with Safety rails and a Guard rail around it. However, if you are not working on such a large scale, building can be quite easy. Consider constructing a dog house in your yard. That definitely, does not require much of effort.

When you are making a dog house, you need to consider a few aspects such as your dog requirements. Give some thought about the different factors for example; the general temperament of the dog, whether it likes to play frequently, the kind of breed it belongs to (is it long-haired, husky, skinny or short-haired?), and the kind of climate you are living in. Next, go to your local home improvement store to put together all the objects you will need for this project. When you are through with that errand, you can start building a dog house.

First, plan a design and you have to take measurements of the house. For this, you need to consider the size of your dog, if your pet is still a young one; the project should be postponed until your dog reaches adulthood. Dogs should have sufficient space to move around and lie freely in the shelter. Use 2×4 wooden boards to build the base. Make the base according to the measurements and nail the corners. Now cut ½” plywood to place on the frame. Fit it on the frame in such a way that the plywood touches the edges of the frame. Next, nail it to make it firm.

Your next mission is to build the walls. Take 2×4 boards again, and ensure that you add center studs for support. Cut them to a measurement that will make them fit in the frame easily. When you are making the rear wall, ensure that you leave a 2-inch space so that it is easy to make the roof strut solid. Construct the wall frame with 2×4 boards and leave some space at the entrance. Now, using ½” plywood, frame the exterior of the walls and nail it together from the corners, and leave sufficient space at the front for the dog to enter.

Now you have to construct the roof. For this, cut the roof struts according to the dog’s height. For the frame of the roof, make four evenly spaced holes on the sides of the board and nail it on the frame of the rest of the house. Now, using the plywood, nail the walls of the roof and place it on the top of the house, firmly.

Finally, you have to customize the dog house. For a final touch, paint the wood inside and outside. Inside the house, use durable carpeting so it can withstand the mud and dirt your dog brings into the shelter. This will also help give insulation to your dog house during the winter months.

A dog is man’s best buddy. Building a house for your dog will provide it with its own home. Make your dog pleased and cozy, and enjoy its company for years to come!

It’s Raining Cats and Dogs

Meteorologists as well as home gardeners measure all kinds of weather. They use a rain gauge to measure rainfall and it can be any old container, similar to a bottle, which is left outside to collect the rain and get a measurement. Whether it’s raining cats and dogs, or only slightly sprinkling, an accurate gauge will collect rainfall and give a measurement, thus informing you of how much rain has fallen. It is a fun and easy project to make a simple garden rain gauge.

A simple rain gauge is a low-tech method of getting a rainfall measurement and all that is required is a container, such as a cylinder with a flat bottom and straight sides. While this type of container can help you gauge whether it was raining cats and dogs, it is very difficult to measure small amounts of precipitation this way.

A tipping bucket records precipitation on a rotating drum or electronically. A simple rain gauge has a funnel, but the funnel leads to two tiny buckets. The buckets are balanced similarly to a see-saw and each holds one-hundredth of an inch of water. When one bucket fills up, it tips down and is emptied as the other bucket fills with precipitation. Each tip of the bucket causes the rotating drum to record an increase of one-hundredth of an inch of rain. This method is not for when it’s raining cats and dogs.
