Modern supplements for old-fangled health

In the past, life was simple. Eating could also be simple. Most people grew their own food or purchased food grown close to home. Eating in this manner, they didn’t have to worry about their nutrition as long as they ate a good variety of healthful foods. With the absence of fast food, manufactured snack foods, and other processed foods, they didn’t have to worry about foreign chemicals in their bodies. In today’s technological world, there are even more chemicals to worry about than just food chemicals. We also need to be concerned with the chemicals in the containers. As a result, people are much more concerned with learning as much as possible about how to counteract the problems caused by unnatural chemicals. Companies are popping up to provide answers to these problems. Two such products are liquid zeolite and ellagic acid. These two products have two very different uses.
First we will look at zeolite. Zeolite is a natural mineral found close to volcanoes. This mineral has a unique structure that allows its use as an internal filter. Contrary to what you might expect, the best form of this product is in liquid form. This liquid is not merely a solution of a fine powder of zeolite and water. It is specially processed into a suspended solution of humic and fulvic acids, making it an easy-to-take supplement. But why do we want to take this suspended mineral? It acts as a filter to remove the toxins that life in the modern world puts into our bodies. These toxins include the heavy metals mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and more. Other toxins filtered out by zeolite include pesticides, herbicides, free radicals, PCB’s, and others. It’s easy to see that this is a list of substances that we don’t want in our bodies where they can compromise our health. We want them gone. We want bodies as pure as those of our ancestors.
Next we will look at ellagic acid. There’s a good chance you’ve never heard of this supplement, either, but you’ve most surely been consuming it all of your life. It is a naturally occurring substance in many of the foods that you normally consume as part of your healthy diet. Ellagic acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic found in 46 different fruits and nuts such as blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries. As much as you love eating these fruits, you can eat only so much. To receive the full benefit, you may want to take it in as a dietary supplement. But why do you want to take it? You’ll be surprised by the benefits of ellagic acid. This is all very complicated, but the claims for this supplement are that they protect the body from cancer. According to some studies, ellagic acid causes the death of cancer cells. Other studies find that it keeps cancer cells from spreading. Of course, prudence would tell you not to rely solely on a dietary supplement for a cancer cure. You should only use it for this purpose as part of the scientifically accepted treatment prescribed by a doctor who specialized in the treatment of this disease.

Where to Find the Most Common Toxins

There is a myriad of innumerable toxins that have permeated our environment. While some of the risks are known, it’s impossible to know how many negative effects will be realized in the future. The possible health hazards are so alarming that a number of people are taking supplements of ellagic acid and liquid zeolite with the hope of preventing or reversing the damage inflicted upon their bodies. The following includes a mere sampling of the most prevalent toxins found in our air, water and food supply.

Chlorine is an extremely toxic gas as well as one of the most commonly used chemicals. It is mostly used in industrial processes as paper making and is found in the air near paper plants. Breathing in this gas near industrial plants or by carelessly using some household cleaners can cause problems such as the bronchi becoming narrow, wheezing, rapid breathing, a sore throat, coughing, irritation and burning of the eyes and skin, collapsed lung, pain in the lungs and asthma.

Dioxins are formed from the burning of fuels such as oil, coal and wood as well as the commercial incineration of waste. Unfortunately, these harmful substances have found their way into the food supply making our main exposure the consumption of commercial animal fats. Some of the risks include skin rashes, excessive body hair, liver damage and cancer.

Heavy metals that can build up over time in the soft tissues of our bodies are aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury. These are found almost everywhere in our environment in such places as dental fillings, antiperspirant, drinking water, vaccines, fish, preserved wood, building materials, chlorine plants and pesticides. Long term exposure to heavy metals over an undertermined amoutn of time include Alzheimer’s disease, fatigue, low red and white blood cells counts, nausea and vomiting, neurological disorders, cancer and heart arrhythmia.

Exposure to small amounts of fungal toxins and mold cause allergic reactions one out of every three people. Exposure to these substances found in alcoholic beverages, corn, wheat, peanuts and contaminated buildings can contribute to asthma, diabetes, heart disease and multiple sclerosis.

Polychlorinated biphenyls or PCBs are industrial pollutants that still pose a huge threat despite being banned in the U.S. several decades ago. Farm-raised salmon are a main source because they are fed ground-up fish that have been contaminated with PCBs.

A vast number of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides are known to be carcinogenic and it is horrifying that well over half of foods, including fruits, vegetables and commercially raised meats in the U.S. contain these residues. Some of the complications are birth defects, miscarriages, cancer, nerve damage, Parkinson’s disease and the reduction of absorption of nutrients by the body.

People need to continually educate themselves in order to recognize and avoid harmful chemicals in every product on the market. We are not powerless against the government, the food or pharmaceutical industry. To stop serving as guinea pigs and save the future of the planet, we must stop purchasing chemical-laden products and demand natural and safe foods.

We Are What We Eat – And It’s Scary

We all enjoy the conveniences of living in our modern, technologically advanced society, however along with all the benefits reaped through engineering and chemistry, we have also been affected by the negative effects on the environment and our health. With more than 3000 chemicals that are added to our food and over 10,000 chemicals such as solvents, preservatives and emulsifiers used in food processing, our bodies are being bombarded constantly by toxic substances. It’s hard to ignore the ever increasing numbers of diseases and cancer, immune system disorders, hormonal imbalances and allergies. It’s almost impossible to identify exactly what and how much we’re exposed to. Some people even feel it necessary to take mineral called zeolite to help ride their systems of harmful heavy metals, but consuming zeolites may have unknown ramifications as well. The best that any of us can hope to do is to recognize and avoid these chemical toxins in our daily lives. Here are simple steps that will help you steer clear of some of the most prevalent toxins.

First of all, immediately stop eating all processed foods. Go through every cupboard and pantry and pitch all those cans of soda, snack cakes, candy, cookies, frozen meals, boxed side dishes and snack chips. Consume as many organic foods as you can afford to buy. Eat only eggs that are labeled as organic and free-range because these are healthy chickens since they are not kept in cages where diseases are spread. They are also fed natural diets which are free from toxic chemicals and pesticides. And, always check out all food labels and avoid artificial food additives including monosodium glutamate (MSG) and all artificial sweeteners.

Although fish provides healthy omega-3 acids for your heart and brain, most all fish is contaminated with mercury and PCBs. Instead, go to our local health food store and look around for a high-quality purified fish oil supplement.

Get as many chemicals out of your home as possible by using only natural cleaning products. Ordinary ingredients such as baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, lemon and orange oils are really all you need to clean and disinfect your home. Don’t contaminate your air with artificial room fresheners and dryer sheets because they contain chemicals you don’t want your family to be breathing in.

Replace your current toiletries with natural ones. You can’t even begin to imagine all the harmful compounds you are layering on that are absorbed by your skin every single day. A nice selection of products as body wash, shampoo and lotion can be found at health food stores, supermarkets and online. In the summer months, refrain from using insect repellants that contain DEET and look for natural alternatives.

Don’t belive all the hype. We need daily sun exposure to produce vitamin D which is vital to the function of a healthy immune system. urther protect your health by installing air purifiers in your home and water filters on the faucets. Finally, limit the use of medication as much as you can. Both prescription and over-the counter drugs are made of chemicals that build up in the body over your entire lifetime.

Our culture is at a point where we will never be able to completely avoid all substances that can harm us now and harm future generations. However, people must vigilant to be proactive, stay informed and be responsible consumers to protect themselves.
