Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream and in all your body’s cells. It’s an important part of a healthy body because it’s used to form cell membranes, some hormones and is needed for other functions. But a high level of cholesterol in the blood — hypercholesterolemia — is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack.
Cholesterol and other fats can’t dissolve in the blood. They have to be transported to and from the cells by special carriers called lipoproteins. There are several kinds, but the ones to focus on are low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
What is LDL cholesterol?
Low-density lipoprotein is the major cholesterol carrier in the blood. If too much LDL cholesterol circulates in the blood, it can slowly build up in the walls of the arteries feeding the heart and brain. Together with other substances it can form plaque, a thick, hard deposit that can clog those arteries. This condition is known as atherosclerosis. A clot (thrombus) that forms near this plaque can block the blood flow to part of the heart muscle and cause a heart attack. If a clot blocks the blood flow to part of the brain, a stroke results. High cholesterol reflects an increased risk of heart disease. If you have heart disease, your LDL cholesterol should be less than 100 mg/dL and your doctor may even set your goal to be less than 70 mg/dL. That’s why LDL cholesterol is called ‘bad’ cholesterol. Lower levels of LDL cholesterol reflect a lower risk of heart disease.
What is HDL cholesterol?
About one-third to one-fourth of blood cholesterol is carried by HDL. Medical experts think HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it’s passed from the body. Some experts believe HDL removes excess cholesterol from plaques and thus slows their growth. HDL cholesterol is known as ‘good’ cholesterol because a high HDL level seems to protect against heart attack. The opposite is also true: a low HDL level (less than 40 mg/dL in men; less than 50 mg/dL in women) indicates a greater risk. A low HDL cholesterol level also may raise stroke risk.

Reasons To Acquire Fitness Chiefly On A Budget
When it comes to keeping fit most people do not know the first thing to do to start. After buying something very expensive, they find that they have no idea what to do with it, or they just do not use it as it should be employed. used exercise equipment is probably what people need to try out several different kinds until they find the right one. used fitness equipment gives the opportunity to experiment with different outfits before buying a more functional piece. Used Treadmill are one of the most popular pieces that are available as second hand.
Everyone starts off with the greatest of intentions and then finds themselves unable to keep up with what they say they were going to do. But finding the right keep fit regimen is most important so that it gets adhered to. Getting enthusiastic about one form of keep fit or another is great, but fitting it into the rest of the workday can sometimes mean the difference between being successful and putting the item bought at the back of the closet to gather dust.
With second hand machines at least money is not wasted on some fad item that is hitting the headlines as being the next big thing to lose those inches.
Perhaps the wisest thing to do is to go along to a local keep fit center for a look at what is popular. Getting expert help on what is needed to lose those love handles, or just a general tone up all over, can help the individual to choose wisely on just where their money is going to be spent.
Of course, some men will just jump for the weights to get their arms and shoulders into tip top condition. What most forget is that they should attend to other body parts too. Being an inverted triangle shape may turn some men on, but for women it can be a little different. Getting toned all over is the only way to make us look better.
Most people also forget that they also need to do some cardio vascular routines to build up the heart muscle amongst others. Very often it is common to see someone completely bulked up but unable to run short distances without stopping.
Getting into a good routine which will work out all the muscle groups as well as encouraging the heart to beat faster, is one way to enable the person to have total control over their breathing. Swimming is also another fun sport that will make the lungs, and the entire body, fitter and will tone up the whole body as well.
Although people tend to get over excited about losing weight, it is not how much poundage anyone carries that irks some people. People want to look good and lose some inches, so instead of concentrating on the scales, it may be better to just measure specified points every week to see how the body is shaping up. This may make everyone far more successful at sticking to the routine!
