New Designs in Portable Oxygen Units Are Helping Patients Lifestyles

Over the last few years changes in design in Portable Oxygen Systems are making life easier for people who need extra oxygen.
There are a series of new portable oxygen systems available, which are making a positive difference for people who are active but need extra oxygen.
Oxygen systems, including portable, either hold oxygen (as compressed gas or in liquid form) or extract it from the surrounding air and deliver it to the patient (oxygen concentrators).
For a long time the only portable or mobile options available were oxygen storage systems (compressed or liquid) but in recent years portable oxygen concentrators have been introduced.
Oxygen concentrators are powered by electricity to extract oxygen from the surrounding air and resubmit it to the user at a higher concentration.
One of the great advantages of portable concentrators is that they are electrically powered, which means that plug in and battery options are becoming the norm, and this results in greater ease for travel.
Portable oxygen tanks or cylinders have also received new designs and are being made of aluminum, making them lighter and easier to carry.
The shape of portable cylinders has been modernized.
One of the problems with the older portable cylinders was that they were bulky and therefore difficult to maneuver and store – the new designs are thinner and easier to put in place.
When traveling or going out the slimmer and lighter units are also good back up options, no matter what type of system they use.
One of the aspects that has never been easy for patients is being able to move about, but this has now been simplified considerably with the new models, whatever the oxygen system they may use.
The advances in new designs for portable oxygen equipment have increased the quality of life for many people.
